Curriculum Areas

This year we are introducing an exciting, new topic-based approach to the curriculum. Staff have been hard at work planning topics which make relevant links between the skills taught in different areas of the curriculum.  We are also planning lots of stimulating learning experiences for the year to come which we hope will inspire and enthuse children.

We have adopted this approach for a number of reasons; the primary one being in response to children’s comments in interviews and in class.  Many prefer this style of learning as they find it easier to focus on one big picture rather than lots of unrelated ‘bits’.  It is also recommended by a recent government primary curriculum review and links to the approach used at Hangleton Infant’s School for the past couple of years.  Where meaningful links between skills do not exist, some subjects will still be taught separately. Topic webs will be sent home soon to give you more information about your child’s first topic.
